For those who would not have noticed: SAP HANA is the future. And we are part of it! We are proud to mention that, on July 6th, we successfully requalified our FAST solutions to S/4HANA: FAST-Food (Belgium, Luxembourg, France and the Netherlands), FAST-Chemicals (Belgium and Luxembourg), FAST-Retail (Belgium, Luxembourg and France), and FAST-Engineer (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands).
This year, you could already read quite some interesting SAP HANA articles on our blog. Some are meant as an introduction for those who want to keep up without going into the details, others focus more on specific aspects and are expert-level, such as SAP Simple Finance or SAP Fiori, the new face of SAP.

Die-hard fans of our Delaware Consulting blog already have noticed the increasing frequency of SAP HANA blogposts. Do not be worried. This is not caused by a lack of creativity in our team of journalists. The truth is that SAP HANA is evolving so fast and has an impact on such a wide variety of business processes throughout an organization, that we have no other choice than regularly publish articles with updates on the latest innovations.

When I tell my friends and family I’m working as an SAP consultant, I often hear that the company they work for also uses SAP. And that they dislike it. Why? Because the user interface looks horrible. Quite a lot of people get lost in the complexity and working with SAP sadly becomes a frustration. SAP is very much aware of this issue. Chairman and cofounder Hasso Plattner mentioned this when announcing S/4 HANA: “Users told us, ‘Your UI sucks.’”.

Don’t you dream of a simple financial system? A system that gives you a high-level overview of your company’s financial situation. But, at the same time, it offers you a full reconciliation until the deepest level of detail. It guides you in the right direction, on the short term for quick operational decisions, but also in the long run to enable strategic decisions. Next to that, it is easily accessible, on your desktop PC, laptop and all your mobile devices.

Don’t panic. The purpose of this blog post is not to explain how, let’s say, column storage is different from row storage. This will not be a presentation of all technical details of SAP HANA. Instead, you will discover what HANA can mean to you.
We are all continuously generating data. I am right now, by writing this blogpost, by putting the link on Twitter and by sharing it on LinkedIn. You did only a second ago, just by clicking it. More and more of this generated data is getting captured; since 3G, iPhone and iPad entered our lives, we have become walking content creators.
The same goes for the corporate world: there has been an explosive boom of data in the last couple of years. Wal-Mart, for example, handles more than 1 million customer transactions every hour. Their databases contain 167 times the information that is contained in all the books in the US Library of Congress. All companies, from the very smallest to those of Wal-Mart-like size, will be confronted with the – as exciting as challenging – Big Data phenomenon. If not now, then very soon.
